Batteries won't run big trucks

I was listening to T. Boone Pickens on Larry King Live last night and he was saying that Batteries won't run big trucks. He is right about that.

Big trucks(Semis) that carry along with trains most of our goods and services will need either propane or diesel or gas to keep moving.

However, look at trains. They don't use batteries to run either but they do use Diesel electrics which is very efficient. The diesel engine is used as an electrical generator and the electricity directly powers the train. It is one of the most efficient uses of power on earth next to hydroelectric generators.

So it would be possible to build propane electric Semis, diesel electric semis, or even gas electric semis bypassing battery storage and running direct from its combustible power source into the powerful electric motor or motors much like a hybrid without battery storage!
