Pregnant Child Brides

  • To go to above site click on "Pregnant" above.
  • Though I also understand outrage in the more civilized countries of the world that this sort of thing still happens in many third world Countries like Afghanistan, Ethiopia, and very rural and poor parts of India, I believe it is also important to realize why this happens in their cultural context as well as ours.
  • Why this happens is that these groups of people often die before about 40 to 50 years of age because of poverty, no proper health care, no future as we would consider a future here in the western world and no public education available for either anybody or at least for women.
  • When people's life expectancy is only 40 or 50 years of age, if they don't become adults by age 12 or so their lives become ridiculous in the extreme in many different ways.
  • So, unless you are going to financially support them to move to the U.S. or to make their standard of living and education similar to the U.S. or Europe, if you try to radically change their way of life and are not successful you may just in the short run at least be making their lives ridiculous and even more unmanageable than they are now.
  • Unlike many of you I have actually been places where these things are true and have spent time and talked with people enough to know that my perspective is an important one. If you just go over there for a week or two, you don't have enough time to understand why things are the way they are. So, often it is like their lives are sort of like 1000 years ago and only if you brought them home to the U.S. could you make any real and useful changes in most of their lives. So, be careful because you might do more harm than good unless you understand this perspective. I understand you care. Do you understand you might not comprehend the full story?
