Now, you might have a different reaction than mine but when I read "Three Mile Island's other reactor has been shut down since a partial meltdown in 1979" read like a punchline of a joke and I couldn't help but laughing. However, it is not a joke it is also serious. But the timing of those bullets sure hit me in a funny way. And it makes me wonder if we are going to witness a second meltdown because when all these nuclear power plants were built they were all never expected to last longer than 50 years each. So that is something to think about too. And also, "Where do you put a used and burnt out Nuclear power plant?

The answer is: "You get a whole lot of cement and cement it in because it won't be safe for possibly 1000 years or longer for anyone to ever do anything with that land ever again for thousands of years simply because you have to not only leave the cement there you have to keep covering the cement over with more cement during those thousands of years as it cracks and decomposes in nature. Welcome to safe Nuclear power!

So, I did some research and Three Mile Island came online in 1974 so
if I add 50 years to 1974 since my son was born that year and is now 38
in 12 years this facility will have completely reached it's design parameters.
But, just like with cars they don't always last as long as they are designed for
for a variety of reasons.  So, there is likely a 50-50 chance that Three mile Island
as well as all the other nuclear Power plants from that era might be getting sort of dangerous
about from now on.
