Survival Food: Potatoes and Coconuts?

There are only two foods that grow that I know of that you can survive on them by themselves. They are organic baked potatoes and coconuts.

This might seem sort of unbelievable but it is also true.

Of the two of them if I had my choice it would be Baked potatoes. However, it is very important to know that if you only eat the inside (mashed potatoes, or scalloped potatoes or french fries) alone you will die. What allows you to live is the minerals in the peels, the skins. So without eating the skins too you won't make it.

One reason this is known was because in Ireland at one point they gave prisoners in jail only baked potatoes to eat for I think it was 5 years during the 1800s. They were not happy about only eating backed potatoes without any butter and only given water and baked potatoes and nothing else and they remained alive and relatively healthy. However, since potatoes just like carrots, apples and some other things take pesticides directly into their flesh, you would only want to do this with organic potatoes.

The other thing that many people have tried (especially on deserted islands with nothing much else to eat) has been coconuts. However, you have to eat the coconuts at every stage. So, you can't just go to a store and buy young coconuts and live. That won't work. Only by eating the coconuts at every stage from pure coconut water all the way to a gelatinous state with a little water to a stage where there is very little coconut water and hard coconut pulp would you survive this. Also, it wouldn't be very pleasant because only eating and drinking coconuts would give you a constant state of the runs. But, you could survive this if you had to. Then if you could fish in a lake or ocean nearby you could cook the fish and eat the coconuts even if you had no other fresh water source but coconut milk.

So, you have to file this in your memory under the heading: Strange but True.
