The Oddness of 2012

This year has been very odd. Maybe it is just so many people talking about 12-21-12 or people preparing for some kind of Apocalypse. But, still it has been very strange. However, then there was Y2K which should have been the biggest party and turn of the Century but a lot of people were worried about computers having a problem. But somehow that all turned out okay in the end.

This time I think it is whatever you think it is. I think my biggest concern is that Governments and/or terrorists don't take advantage of the date because people are sort of spooked about this date now whether anything happens or not.

Do, I believe it is an apocalypse on 12-21-12? No. Not at all. But I do believe the world is changing. But I think the changes are more psychological and spiritual than they are physical. I think the mistake is thinking the changes will all be physical when actually that is only a very small component.

I look at these times physically as being a great deal like the first couple decades of the 1900s like when the Automobile first got going and airplanes and all that. But instead of that it is now about universal education, universal equality and social media and companies like Facebook, Apple, Google, Samsung, and even Microsoft and others instead of being about cars, trucks, airplanes, jet planes, nuclear weapons and the very first computers like it was the first half of the century.

I don't even think there is going to be a big war or anything like that. I suppose there could be a pandemic that we might not be able to stop or something like the Spanish Flu in 1918 that killed more American Soldiers than the First World War did or something like that.

But I don't see the end of oil suddenly for a variety of reasons. Besides you wouldn't see that in the United States because of all the oil we still have in the ground all over, but you might see that someplace else on earth. And could there be solar flares that make satellites stop working and grids go down and planes fall out of the sky? Probably, but realistically you have to say that the actual probability of something like that happening in the next 10 or 15 years would be somewhere between 3% and 20% depending upon how you weighed the probabilities. But that doesn't mean it couldn't happen tomorrow either.

So, what is 2012 then? I think it is more a psychological and spiritual marker for people more than anything else before we have to say twenty thirteen since we haven't said, "2013" or "2014" or any of the other teens for 100 years now. Just like the early 1900s no one had ever seen times like these ever. And as the changes come even faster and faster in the future people's heads are going to spin even more than they do now. I think we are just going to have to learn to cope with it all. That's what I think.
