Cruise ship adrift

Cruise ship adrift: Fire on Carnival Triumph leaves vessel without full power

A cruise ship is adrift off the coast of Mexico after a fire occurred in the engine room. The Carnival Triumph has more than 4,200 people on board, but luckily nobody was injured in this frightening event. While the ship does have emergency power generators, it is not enough to get the ship back to shore on its own. FOX News shared the details on Feb. 10.
The Carnival Triumph is currently coasting without power 150 miles off the Yucatán peninsula. Tug boats are on the way to assist the ship and people on board to have supplies provided by another ship. The Coast Guard is involved in the situation with the cruise ship adrift as well.
The fire aboard the Carnival Triumph began in the engine room and apparently was automatically extinguished. The company says that the people aboard the cruise ship adrift at sea will be given full refunds as well as a cruise credit for another trip in the future. The ship was slated to depart on a new trip next week, but the next two trips it was set to take have been canceled.
This is a scary situation that could have become a big tragedy, but luckily is it primarily an inconvenience for those aboard what people surely expected would be a fun, fanciful trip. The company says that those aboard the cruise ship adrift are fine and safe, though it is uncertain exactly when everybody will be back to land again.
