Shocking statistics compiled by Oxfam:
The world's 83 richest people have the same wealth as:
the world's 3.5 billion poorest people.
The top 1% of families in wealth own 46%
of Global Wealth which is $110 Trillion dollars
The problem is that Money can be viewed as a form of power.
And absolute power tends to corrupt absolutely.
However, I would say most people who are wealthy try to contribute much as they can to good causes. But, it also must be said this is not necessarily true of all wealthy people in the world.
Even in the U.S. more Senators and Congressment are millionaires than ever before in our history which also tends to skew democracies in strange unexpected directions and which tend to make them more and more undemocratic in their actions as a direct result.
And the less democratic those actions are the more the poor of those nations are going to suffer in a variety of ways and the less long their average lifespans will tend to be.
The actual statistics at the top are from NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams on this day, Monday
January 20th 2014.
