Cold Creek

On the East side of Mt. Shasta up 4 wheel drive roads there are Clear Creek and Cold Creek if you can find how to get there on a map. Because you don't want to get lost out there because there is no cell service in most areas on the East Side of the Mountain out that far up Pilgrim Creek Road to the Widow Creek Dr or Rd. (both exist). But one goes straight up the mountain off of Pilgrim Creek Rd. Also, if you drive Pilgrim Creek Rd you will pass Mud Creek where all the action was high and low above and below Pilgrim Creek rd. and you can still see a lot of the mud flow that came down Mud Creek of powdered Volcanic ash which is why they call Mud Creek Mud Creek because there is always fine volcanic Gray Silt in it flowing down towards the McCloud River. So, if you go up there in your 4 wheel drive be sure to prepare for a lot of volcanic dust on the outside of your car and maybe you might have to either miss or move some fallen trees, boulders or rocks to get there along the way on this particular road. You know you are in the right place because suddenly the road just stops with a large dry creek bed but over a couple of dry creek beds forwards on foot you will find Cold CReek which is still running strong as of today. If you trace this creek all the way up until it comes out of the mountain as a spring then you know you have reached the source of Cold Creek which is completely snow fed from underground springs that pop out of the mountain suddenly at about 8000 to 9000 feet. We started to see patches of snow as we neared the spring coming directly out of the mountain. Sources like this you can drink from too because nothing can get to it underground. So, you just can drink from it right there. And Mt. Shasta water is some of the best in the world.

Today as we got out of my truck it said it was 86 degrees which is very hot for 7000 to 8000 feet on the mountain. But, then again in the little city of Mt. Shasta it was supposed to have been 95 today which it already was when we left to travel around the mountain. Tomorrow it is supposed to be 102 degrees in Mt. Shasta and between 112 and 114 in Redding which seems pretty hot for this early in the year. These kinds of temperatures are more for August and September and sometimes October most years in Redding and Red Bluff, here in California.
