South San Francisco officer remains in critical condition after Thanksgiving skateboard attack

A South San Francisco police officer remains in critical condition after a man struck him in the head with a skateboard during a Thanksgiving Day confrontation.
Robby Chon, a 12-year veteran of the department, was responding to a disturbance at a business on the 300 block of Grand Avenue Thursday, police said. When Chon arrived at the scene, the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Luis Alberto Ramos-Coreas, refused to follow the officer’s commands, authorities said.

Ramos-Coreas fled on a skateboard and the officer ran after him, according to a statement from the police department. The suspect “stopped, turned and struck the officer on the head with the skateboard, knocking the officer unconscious,” police said.

Another officer took Ramos-Coreas into custody without further incident, authorities said. He is expected to be charged with attempted murder of a police officer and other felonies.
