New York Politicians to boycott Trump inauguration over Rep. John Lewis Spat

Being a white person I can somewhat support the election of Trump even though I didn't vote for him simply because he was elected president and we need a leader even if we don't want him to be president. But, I think black people and Muslims in the U.S. and world are going to completely rebel against Trump. This is a given. Trump has declared WAR on blacks, Muslims and Mexicans here in the U.S. and everywhere else. To not expect some kind of war or social war between them is to be sort of naive and ridiculous both nationwide and worldwide. This is not a United States right now. We are a deeply divided nation and Trump is just going to make this 10 times worse because of his personality and style which is too combative to be a successful president. We need a uniter and instead have a divider. This won't go well. We are likely going to see demonstrations against Trump and his policies like the late 1960s once again here in the U.S. all over.

A number of Democratic lawmakers — including at least four in New York — are boycotting next week’s inauguration, especially after Donald Trump attacked civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis on Twitter.
Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-Brooklyn) is the latest to break tradition by joining a list of defiant politicians.
“I will NOT attend the inauguration of @realDonaldTrump,” Clarke tweeted Saturday. “When you insult @RepJohnLewis, you insult America.”
Trump repeatedly insulted the Georgia representative on Saturday after Lewis said he did not see the billionaire as a “legitimate president,” citing claims that the Kremlin meddled in the U.S. election in Trump’s favor.
Lewis added that he will not attend the Jan. 20 transfer of power out of protest.
Reps. Adriano Espaillat and Jerrold Nadler are among at least 18 lawmakers shunning Trump’s big day nationwide, Politico reports.
On Saturday, Nadler tweeted that Trump stands with Putin, while he supports Lewis.
Lewis has said that he will not attend Trump's inauguration.

Earlier this week, NYC lawmakers Reps. Jose Serrano and Nydia Velazquez made up their minds on skipping the inauguration.
“Cannot celebrate the inauguration of a man who has no regard for my constituents,” Serrano tweeted on Thursday, responding to Trump’s campaign pledge to deport millions undocumented migrants.
Velazquez pledged to travel to Washington D.C. and join thousands of women protesting Trump’s presidency in a massive march scheduled for the Saturday after the swearing-in ceremony.

McClatchy reports that the majority of Democrats boycotting the inauguration were elected with a safe margin — at least 64% of their district’s votes — during the November election. Among them are a number of California representatives: Barbara Lee, Ted Lieu, Mark Takano and Jared Huffman.
Rep. Kurt Schrader would rather stay in Oregon than make the cross-country trip, he told Oregon Public Broadcasting.
“I’m just not a big Trump fan,” Schrader said.
“I respectfully decline to freeze my a-- out there in the cold for this particular ceremony,” he added.
