Worst Flooding anyone in San Jose has EVER seen!

What happened starting on Saturday wast that Anderson Reservoir in Morgan Hill (next door to San Jose) (San Jose's Coyote Creek comes out from the reservoir) overflowed it's banks. Coyote Creek could not withstand the water and flooded all the northbound lanes of Hiway 101 (a main thoroughfare from Santa Barbara up through San Francisco to Eureka and Crescent City) on the coast of California. There is also hiway 1 but it is very windy and only a two lane scenic hiway most places and that is now closed in several places in Big Sur with one Bridge completely out and ready to fall from one pillar undermined by a slide big enough to take out the whole bridge eventually. So that whole large bridge now has to be demolished and rebuilt within the next 6 months to a year when funds are available from State and Federal disaster funds.

Anyway, in San Jose 101 north bound lanes closed in Morgan Hill and I was told are still closed until 11 pm tonight. However, if you are northbound check Caltrans hiway checker online and put in hiway 101in  to see for sure when northbound lanes open.

In San Jose Coyote Creek flooded out 500 homes and 200 people had to be evacuated by boat or tall fire engines because of the flooding.

As I said before this is the most flooding San Jose residents have ever seen.

This concerns me more than normal that we could still be having another 1862 like California Atmospheric mega storm experience this year, IF this continues with 1 to 2 heavy rainstorms per week like it has been through April or May. This is very concerning because street after street and hiway and bridge after bridge are being undermined and collapsing on their own or with cars or trucks driving on them so far throughout the north State. The hiways and homes being flooded and being undermined and slides coming down onto hiways. (I saw one on Hiway 101 where small trees and bushes came down out into where the dotted white lane marker was in the center of the southbound hiway only a mile or two after seeing a pickup truck on top of a prius in the center divider on 101 with most of the tires burned off the trucks wheels likely from skidding sideways or rolling over onto the Prius Hood.

Seeing the northbound lanes I drove myself on 101 to SFO San Francisco Airport to pick my daughter up from overseas just a couple of days ago was kind of eerie to see how at first only the biggest trucks could drive it without being swamped until finally because of the big waves the trucks were making were spilling onto the southbound lanes they had to close 101 completely northbound.

The main problem with all these atmospheric river storms is they come with 30 mph to 50 mph to 80 plus mile per hour winds and also dump 2 to 5 or more times as much rain as normal storms. Atmospheric River storms are sort of like having the mouth of the Mississippi river come out of the sky when they are here in California, Oregon or Washington or Mexico or Canada depending where the jet stream  and high and low pressure areas send them.

Here is the Caltrans 101 info as of 10:18 PST Wednesday night. They appear to have the north bound lanes reopened and all the mud cleared away enough for cars and truck to pass this area again:

I just put in hiway 101 into the tracker to get this information. you can do this with most state or federal hiways in California. just put in the number and it will tell you whether or not it is open or not or where all the breaks are or whether it is closed to all traffic or just one lane is open.
