A Mass form of enlightenment since the 1960s?

If you lived through the 1950s like I did and suffered through it, you know that a whole new level of enlightenment by millions of people especially in democratic nations with more human rights has taken place here on earth.

The form this has taken is in equal rights and more rights for minorities of every ethnic group and race.

The world still isn't perfect by a long shot but if you remember like I do doctors going on TV to tell you that it was good for you to smoke cigarettes and all the other crazy things people said and did then, then you understand just how far and how enlightened we are now in democratic developed nations than we were then.

Where I live now the air is clear and pure year around. But then, in the 1950s for example, in Los Angeles if I started crying from the sulphur from burning gasoline with lead and high sulfur content as a child and I was outside I couldn't stop crying. However, now this never happens in Los Angeles to show you how much has changed now just in the air. However, others say that the air though it looks often clearer actually does more damage to people now from the by products of catalytic converters in the upper atmosphere.

So, the point of what I'm trying to get at is if we had stayed in the 1950s by now the world would have ended from nuclear war by now, if it hadn't ended we would be polluted and the west of the U.S. would be filled with nuclear power plants slowly melting down, all our waters would be polluted and undrinkable (like it is most of the rest of the world right now).

People would still not be going to college in the numbers they are today and learning about important things to their survival in all directions like they are today either.

It was only the Viet Nam war and the draft that started this incredible education bent in the U.S. after all.

When that crazy war started boys went to college that would have done anything else instead before. But, rather than go die like their friends in Viet Nam many got a student deferment to go to college and all the girls followed them to college to find college educated husbands and so this started women thinking too in new and equal rights directions for women and minorities and ethnic groups and races in all directions.

So now, you have a completely different much more enlightened direction that people are going. It's true that political correctness is a cancer destroying us at a college and university level but hopefully enough people will see this to change this over time before we lose our country to someone like Putin because he laughs at our political correctness and uses it incredibly efficiently to destroy us now using KGB psychological warfare well thought out Machievellian thinking.

His latest foray is to destroy our democracy by turning democrats and republicans so against each other that we cease to be one nation anymore.

And he has succeeded in putting in the most incompetent government in the history of the United States because Trump values loyalty over competence when choosing people to work for him.

So, even though we are slipping back into confusion again through Trump, we have already come so far into a new form of enlightenment that I think we cannot really go back.

It is sort of like a mountain climber where on some terrain you go 3 steps forward and one step back on loose rocks. In other words sometimes you slide back one foot for every 3 you go forward. I see this as the Trump administration's effect on human rights and human enlightenment. But, it doesn't really stop the forward progression of the human race except for 4 years only hopefully. And during this time maybe we will get  a handle on how political correctness directly led us to having Trump as a president.
