I was thinking about this as I wrote the above article and thinking I wanted to see this movie again to get a better feel for what is happening in Artificial Intelligence right now. Because even though humans are directing who dies on the ground through drones at present it won't always be this way. Eventually, it will be drones deciding on earth who lives and who dies. Why? Because it will be convenient for some 3rd world dictators to eliminate whole populations of some ethnic groups that oppose their rule. It will also be convenient for rich drug lords to eliminate the competition.
For example, imagine Assad not just gassing his people and children who are Sunnis by using pilots with planes or helicopters but using pilotless drones to eliminate all Sunnis who oppose him in Syria. All he would have to do is to program where these people opposed him live and he could eliminate all of them as effortlessly as I program my TIVO to record specific programs up to a month in advance that I might want to watch on TV from Cable to DVR.
I think not to realize that this is where all this is going is to be naive.
