Homeless people living in community college parking lots?

This may be either a local phenomenon or a west coast phenomenon or maybe this is happening all over. I can't really say at this point.

However, what I CAN say is that ever since about 1965 and 1967 during the "Summer of Love" in San Francisco, there is an element of the population that is more "Funky Groovy" than most of the rest of the country still and into "Let it all hang out" more than most places and very into self discovery and being more experimental than the rest of the country.

Another factor here is if you want to live in California and you love it here often people of lower incomes cannot afford to rent a place and eat. So, if you are going to give up something it often is going to be where you sleep and to find something cheaper to do especially when on the coast at least you likely are not going to be able to rent even a 1 bedroom apartment for less than around 2000 a month anywhere and even more if it is San Jose or San Francisco which are the two most expensive places (larger places) as far as buying a home or renting now in the entire U.S.

So, you are going to see people who love California refusing to move away even if they have to live in a storm drain or an old van or used truck or car. And so more and more I think this new phenomena of students of all ages living in cars, trucks or vans or motor homes in community college parking lots is a new phenomena.

MY housekeeper's oldest daughter goes to a local community college and said she was afraid to go into the bathrooms and showers because homeless people were doing drugs and being crazy there. So, she did not even feel comfortable enough to shower and to leave her clothes even for a moment in this situation. So, obviously, crime wise this situation likely will be or is a magnet for trouble on community college campuses in the future too.

However, if the cost of living gets so high people cannot even afford to live at all or at any point then you can see more of this kind of thing happening in the future. As rents and homes go higher and higher in prices there are going to be people that cannot any longer afford to live either where they grew up or where they presently want to live.

So, therefore it is inevitable that the "Homeless" population living in vehicles in a rented parking space at a community college and using showering and bathroom facilities in the Gyms there is likely inevitable. However, maybe if you are a parent of a community college student you might also want to know this is going on just for their safety and your liability if for no other reason?
