Leaves falling and blowing around in Mt. Shasta Today

We had planned to head north towards Portland today and it was cold and windy after yesterday being about 76 degrees in town which was amazing for this time of year. I went to load up my 4 wheel drive truck and it was about 41 degrees and windy so I put my hood up because the breeze was kind of nasty but the leaves looked great blowing around everywhere as long as you weren't trying to drive through them regarding visibility. Later as we got out onto Interstate 5 the winds were gusty too and became less gusty as we headed north past Yreka and Hilt and into Oregon. Gas in Oregon is about at least 70 Cents a gallon less in Ashland than anywhere in California by the way (but don't forget you aren't allowed to put your own gas or diesel in your car or truck in Oregon either if you are traveling through Oregon. You have to let a gas station attendant do that for you.

The trees were beautiful in Mt. Shasta and heading north especially coming into Yreka and from there on into Ashland, Talent, Medford and beyond. As you get up as far as Eugene, however, many trees have already dropped all their leaves in some places whereas places like Sacramento to Redding last Wednesday were just starting to turn (the leaves from green to red or orange or yellow). So, the further north you go right now the more likely the leaves have already dropped off the trees most places.

Where I am presently at 11 pm it's presently about 40 degrees going down to about 33 degrees tonight by Tuesday it's supposed to drop to 25 as a low when the polar blast drops down from Canada into Oregon and Northern California.

I was watching the news at our hotel and learned that there is a measles outbreak in Portland that came from Europe on a plane and that there are new cases that have hit Tous Les Jours in Beaverton and I think the Costco and Target likely also in the Beaverton area  (which is a suburb of Portland). I think they have 75 confirmed cases of Measles so far in this latest outbreak from Europe and Portland Airport.

Measles is particularly bad for the very young and the very old who never had measles. So, if you live in the Portland area it might be important to get a measles shot for your kids or elders especially around now
