Since in reality Globalization disempowers Every nation state no matter what form of government it is, let us look at the way nations can protect themselves from globalization destroying their nation states. The first weapons are blatant. They are isolationism and trade wars. However, nations are wary of using these self protective barriers because it tends to isolate not only the problem but tends also to weaken and to lessen the ability of those within the nation to generate great wealth. However, isolationism does one thing it keeps jobs at home for those nations that have natural resources and keeps unemployment low.
For example, in the United States it is thought by some financial wizards that because of our slow recovery that it likely will mean about one percentage point in increase per year in unemployment for the next several years. Because unless any economy in any nation state increases at least 3% or more per year unemployment will tend to increase at a rate of about 1% per year in Developed economies. So, at present the only real way for the United States to increase employment other than the government hiring everyone unemployed would be to isolate away from other nations and to isolate away from globalism. However, this likely won't happen because this would mean that the wealthiest people in the U.S. would get poorer even as the masses got jobs and were all employed. So, the net effect of isolationism would be full employment even as the nation state became poorer and poorer economically because of being disconnected from international trade.
So, what is coming then? Likely, we will see an increase of 1% per year in unemployment over the next 3 to 5 years. And it doesn't matter at all whether democrats or republicans are elected. Doesn't matter at all. Because the problem of unemployment is international not national and CANNOT be solved only by changing elected officials.
The only way that I can presently see to solve our problems long term would be to create a fair world economic system because this one is about as unfair as it could get. I hesitate to say this because it is like the joke. Some one said, "Cheer up. Things could be worse. So I cheered up and sure enough they got worse!"
So the most important statement I can make in the age of globalization is: INTERNATIONALLY ENFORCED LAWS NEED TO BE ENACTED SO THE WORLD ECONOMIC SYSTEM IS FAIRER THAN NOW.
Otherwise, No ONe has any motivation to play with the loaded fixed dice that they don't control. The world economic system is now gamed in so many ways that playing in this game now is like playing Russian Roulette with a gun with one bullet to one's head!
Without more practical observable fairness it is only a matter of time before the world economic system collapses completely as less and less people have the stomach for playing in it during these very corrupt times worldwide!
