Survival List (for those concerned about world changes)
I personally don't believe the U.S. for example is ready to have the same kinds of problems the middle east or Japan is presently having. However, for the full list if you are in a country and in danger is found at:
http://www.amazon.com/Gregs-Survival-List/lm/REHC8Q6VOLDCS/ref=cm_lmt_srch_f_1_rsrsrs0
However, for the U.S. presently, this is what I found that might prepare someone for time without electricity or running water that floods and Earthquakes or being snowed in or having a long drought without running water might create:
The following list was compiled for Amazon.Com from someone named Greg with military experience:
"(1 to 2 bottles) with the Hydrate or Die Logo -
Make sure to get the extended plastic adapter as seen on the bladders and make sure to get the sports cap for a back-up. I chose the stainless steel over the bladders because of the chance of holes and no way to fix or repair it."
"Field cookware place holder. I do not want the Coleman product because it has too many pieces and does not have a high enough rating for me. Do not purchase so much gear that you can not walk or walk far. Do not purchase cheap gear because we are talking about survival and you will only be cheating your life. Purchase a quality 1 piece spoon-fork as your utensil."
"Ideally, you want military MREs because they contain more calories than civilian products. Carry enough for a few days out in the field then start hunting. Learn hunting skills before disaster strikes. There is plenty of information on the Internet regarding MREs. You can go longer without food but it is better not to be starving."
"Currently the best 4-season tent on Amazon designed for back-packing. Learn to make shelters out of nature is the best thing to do and this is an alternative and/or back-up."
"Get two or one for each member of your team since they do not cost or weigh much. Learn the skill of fire making without technology. An alternative to primitive fire starting methods, you can carry some UCO Stormproof Matches in your BoB."
"Learn primitive skills prior and/or on the road. Fill the bag with toothpaste, tooth brush, unscented soap (if possible), straight razor, extra blades, shaving cream, foot powder, and TP. Do not worry about smelling your best during survival, remain healthy and tactical. Do not forget a towel and wash cloth."
"Place holder, this may change. Larger kits and set-ups for vehicles, horses, and BOLs. I do not like the fact it is red. Make sure to purchase missing medical items."
"Reduces chance of thyroid damage in a radiation emergency. As long as nuclear weapons and power plants remain, you should have this in your medical kit."
"If you have a solar panel, recharger, and rechargeable batteries, you can use the Garmin GPS 60CSx Handheld GPS Navigator. Make sure to master Land Nav with the compass just in case your GPS dies or the GPS satellites go offline. In addition, purchase topological maps of the US or the region you will be surviving in."
"To be worn with blue jeans, long\short sleeve shirt, and boots at the beginning stages of the panic and bugging out of the city. It would be better if you had a CCW license since this vest comes with a concealed weapons holster. Sorry for the small picture, Amazon changed the pictures."
"To be worn underneath Tactical Vests. They make BP face masks too except they only go up to level IIIA. Good for repelling an assault. Although it will not stop sniper rifles (7.62mm and above), gas, and it will probably feel like being hit by a boulder too."
"Better than spandex and highly recommended for survival on foot. Trust me, it sucks when you start to chaff. Remain healthy, in high spirits, and survive! Purchase about a weeks worth."
"Or purchase similar socks in earth tones. Make sure they are cotton or mostly cotton because your feet will love you more. The military issued me wool socks and my feet hated me for it. Make sure to purchase about a week's worth."
"Don't forget a jacket and make sure to purchase water proof bags. Wet clothing and gear is no fun during survival situations. You want to talk about miserable!"
"Make sure to inspect your gas masks for wear and tear. If your NATO 40mm filters are older than 5 years old, replace them. If you do not want this mask, remember the above and shop elsewhere. Make sure to get a Molle Gas Mask carrier."
"Make any carried reference books smaller by using the computer and protect the pages with plastic sleeves and binder. This is just in case your Kindle or Ruggedized computer dies."
"A bundle package. An alternative to this is the Brunton SolarRoll (make sure to purchase an inverter). Remember, power is a luxury. Learn to do with out and your survival will be easier. Learn and commit to memory wilderness and TEOTWAKI skills before disaster strikes. If you have a car or horse, get the 40 watt."
