Note: I have not studied French Law I was just listening to a piece on NPR radio about it because of what has happened to the French Head of the IMF in New York.
They were speaking about how privacy is more important to the French than to Americans. In other words someone's good name and honor is worth protecting. Whereas in the U.S. Free Speech is more important than the accidental destruction of a person's lifetime honor. I can see the point of both the Napoleonic code and the U.S. code and each have their advantages and disadvantages. They were talking about how the French think that this maid was hired to get this man by Sarkozy, the present President of France. Since he was going to run against Sarkozy in the next election this could be a possibility. So it is possible that the IMF head could actually be innocent. However, because of his past escapades, especially if he had been drinking kind of go against him in all this. So, he could be innocent or guilty and it might not matter if he was innocent if he was framed by Sarkozy so he couldn't run against him. Either way, the IMF head's life is ruined whether he is guilty or not because of they way U.S. and world media have access to all this information. So he has been proven guilty in the press no matter whether he is innocent or not in real life or an actual court of law.
