IBM raises home computer storage limit to 100 to 150 Terrabytes

IBM Researchers Smash Storage Limits

After five years of work IBM scientists have discovered how to put a single data bit on to a surface of 12 atoms. On current magnetic storage devices the figure is over a million.
Computer World describes the implications of the breakthrough:

“Looking at this conservatively … instead of 1TB on a device you’d have 100TB to 150TB. About a year ago my son who was a tech in his 20s opened up an older Imac of ours and put in 1 terabyte of memory storage. He said because of doing this he had added about 5 years of usefulness to this IMac my wife and daughter and sometimes I use. However, now 100 TB(terabyte) to 150TB hard drives might be available soon if your computer can access that amount of information in its programming and cpu.
