The Leap of Faith

The leap of Faith means something different to everyone, depending upon their religious and cultural background or lack of one. But, to me, a leap of faith is always something you do suddenly and it always has radically changed my life. Usually, in my life I will have been very upset about one thing or another. So, often it is like standing on the edge of a cliff and trying to get enough courage to jump into the water. Whatever the leap of faith consists of, one must always gauge perfectly how one executes the jump. And whether the jump is metaphorical or physical or both, one does not make these jumps lightly. Because once committed to the jump there often is no turning back if you want to survive mentally, emotionaly or physically or all three. So, whatever that leap of faith means to you, it is designed to take you to your next life here on earth, it is a "little death" so you can have a whole new life. It may be walking out of your parents home for the last time as a college student where you might visit for a Christmas or a summer but you might never live with your parents again. It might be a leap of faith to another job, or getting married, or it might be a leap of faith into a spiritual discipline because your heart moves you to. It could be anything that moves you to the core of your being. But without those leaps of faith we all soon begin to die. All of you and I have met people that were just too afraid to make those leaps and we have also met those who made 'bad leaps' that destroyed their lives completely or partially. So, leaps of faith are a commonsensical thing but without some kind of learned common sense and balance those leaps of faith might take our lives and we will be gone. But without those leaps of faith we might just wish we were dead for the rest of our lives and then be considered "the living dead" by all we meet.

So learning to recognize when to take those leaps of faith and when to have the courage to do so is what is so remarkable about being a human being here on earth.
