Laschamp Geomagnetic excursion part 2

The Laschamp Geomagnetic Event

Geomagnetic excursion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I was looking for more relevant information about the Laschamp Geomagnetic Field Excursion. I didn't find what I wanted at Wikipedia so I found this site that looks like it is for Geophysics students as a forum. I hope it is useful to you in understanding more about the Geomagnetic excursion called "Laschamp Geomagnetic Field excursion".

This paper Deep-sea sediment records of the Laschamp geomagnetic field excursion (∼41,000 calendar years before present) concludes that the narrow Laschamps excursion event, or class I excursions in general, are more closely related to normal secular variation and are not necessarily a prelude to magnetic field reversal. So what are they and what causes them? The geomagnetic field suffered for some time and so one would imagine that life did as well: "magnetic field intensities less than 10% of normal that persisted for almost 2000 years". How relevant is this event to the megafaunal extinctions for example?

So, I understand that this particular Laschamp Geomagnetic field excursion happened 41,000 years ago and seriously affected life on earth at that time. It may be that the Mayan Calendar which also began during a Geomagnetic Field Excursion is also ending during one as well and that these excursions are a cyclical event sort of like the tides in the ocean that happen only they happen  every several thousand years or so. It is my understanding that the Magnetosphere also weakens incredibly during a Geomagnetic excursion as well. So, the cracks in the Magnetosphere could be a part of the present day geomagnetic excursion. Unfortunately, we are at a high Sunspot 11 year cycle and the weakened magnetosphere imperils life and electronics here on earth should a major event  from the sun fire directly at earth. The magnetosphere which is weakened likely partly because of a Geomagnetic excursion won't properly protect us or our electronics under these circumstances. So, should a major solar mass ejection happen directly at earth it might imperil electronics and sensitive species of creatures or humans in regard to reproduction or cancer like skin cancer. It is difficult to predict what a major solar event during a Geomagnetic excursion would actually do.
