Gone
The phone rang and I picked it up but no one was there. Because of cell phones I thought it was my wife so I called back. She was very upset and explained to me why. She told me that her favorite teller at the bank had suddenly died and that she was a beautiful 35 year old woman who suddenly had a brain aneurism and that the funeral had been last Saturday but that she hadn't found out until today. I said to her, "This is why I'm grateful for each and every day of life. Every day I'm thankful to be alive and to be married to you and to have all our wonderful children and to not have to worry about having enough money to pay the bills. You never know which moment is going to be your last. But if you are prepared to die ANY moment it doesn't matter which moment that is!" My wife thanked me for taking care of her and saying all the right things to her but I knew she would need a little time to calm down from the loss of her favorite bank teller. After all, my wife is in her 50s and this lady was at most 35 and had to remind my wife of her mortality. Death has been looking over my shoulder all my life. I have always known my death could be any moment from the time I was 2 years old and dying with whooping cough. Rejoice in each and every moment of life. You never know which moment will be your last.
