This book is written by two think tankers, a Republican and a Democrat because both believe the way the congress (is not functioning) is killing our democracy. I agree completely with them. If something doesn't change we soon will be in a fascist state or just some kind of Dictatorship run by the military like a lot of other nations. Without compromise in Congress a democracy cannot exist. If a democracy cannot exist, a fascist state or dictatorship of come kind comes about in order to maintain order. Since we are close to losing our democracy because of the complete dysfunctionality of Congress and to some degree the dysfunctionality of the Supreme Court over political donation laws, it appears the ONLY Completely FUNCTIONAL branch of government left is the Presidential Branch. However, because of the Congresses dysfunctionality and the Supreme Courts dysfunctionality in regard to campaign finance and political donations we may lose the Presidency as a functional branch of government as well as the other two by November. If this happens expect riots in the streets that make the 1960s look like a cake walk. And at that point we can only expect a dictatorship or a fascist state run by the military at some point in the next 10 years. The ideas put forth in this book are very important for at the very least the educated people in the U.S. and around the world to understand. And because people around the world look to the U.S. for Logic and fairness in regards to Human rights and other issues, if something isn't done soon the world may lose that rudder of Human rights, the United States.
The style of political hostage taking of "My way or the highway" simply takes the U.S. back to a "Warlord" style of governing. When there is no compromise there can be no democracy. Because democracy is always an unhappy compromise by both sides. No one side ever gets exactly what they want. If they did then this would be a dictatorship and not a democracy. So, political hostage taking amounts to a Genghis Khan style of government which becomes completely dysfunctional because we are no longer in the 1200s in Asia, but rather in the U.S. in 2012 here in the present day.
