I think this movie more than any other I have seen actually depicts what it can be like for a boy around 13 or so coming into his sexual maturity slowly and all the problems that ensue. It is also about a young woman who is very beautiful and desirable whose husband is an Italian Soldier off fighting during world War II so she is left unprotected.  It takes place in a little Italian town. It shows what can happen to two beautiful and innocent people when times are tough and the world is changing beyond anyone's capacity to deal with. Though it is subtitled I think it is the single most honest portrayal of the problems of growing up and surviving in a difficult world when things happen way beyond your control. In a situation like this everyone becomes guilty and yet simultaneously everyone is also innocent. What goes around comes around. My daughter and my family streamed it on Netflix through our living room flatscreen.
