Obama, Clinton share interview on '60 minutes'
President Barack Obama lauded Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton as one of his closest advisers and said their shared vision for America's role in the world persuaded his one-time rival to be his top diplomat while he dealt with the shattered economy at home. The unusual joint interview with Obama and Clinton on the CBS News program 60 Minutes, which aired Sunday night, was proposed by the White House. Neither broke much ground in describing the journey that took them from bitter opponents for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008 to collaborators in dealing with terrorism, war, diplomacy and global economics. The two laughed off the meaning of the interview for the 2016 election, when many Democrats expect Clinton to run again. Obama could hardly endorse her when his vice president, Joe Biden, appears to be angling for the party's nomination as well.

American pastor sentenced in Iran
An American pastor who has been jailed in Iran since September has been sentenced to eight years in prison, the U.S. State Department said Sunday. Spokesman Darby Holladay said the department is calling on Iran to respect Saeed Abedini's human rights and release him. This month, Iran's ISNA news agency quoted Abedini's attorney as saying his client stood trial on charges of attempting to undermine state security by creating a network of Christian churches in private homes. The pastor, who is of Iranian origin but lives in Boise, Idaho, rejected the charges.
