The Path to War?

As I was reading the latest Time Magazine that came in the mail today "March 11th 2013 with Pistorius on the cover, I was sort of amazed to find the article called, "The Path to War". There is a picture with two marines  and President Obama talking to Netanyahu on the White House Lawn and in this article it outlines how step by step we sort of are moving towards going to war with Iran. In fact, on some levels (Cold War Style) we have been "at war" with Iran a long time already, maybe since the hostage crisis during the Carter Administration. Since then "The War" has moved along "Cold War" Style in many different phases. In fact, the war in Syria is a Cold War event in regard to Iran even more than Russia. But Russia is in a much more stable situation much like China. Whereas Iran is still as crazy as it was in 1980 when Reagan first got the hostages (all 400+ of them from the Tehran U.S. Embassy) finally returned to U.S. soil after one or two years of being hostages. Part of this is captured in the true movie, "Argo" which won Oscars this year.

An insult of this nature is not something the U.S. will ever forget (nor should it)  much to Iran's dismay. By taking hostage over 400 American diplomats and their families, Iran declared War in the U.S. and the U.S. has been biding it's time to retaliate at the right moment ever since.

Iran since then likely realized it's mistake too late and that eventual war with the U.S. through Israel was inevitable and likely coming soon now. Israel is preparing to attack Iran's nuclear sites in the spring or summer (but as we all know this could also change).

Here are two  very revealing quotes from Time Magazine of where we are now.

Page 24, "Former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage once defined diplomacy as "saying 'nice doggy, nice doggy' until you can find a stick." end quote next quote same page,

"General James Mattis, chief of the U.S. Central Command, began accelerating the U.S. military increase in the Gulf a year ago. In April, the Air Force deployed a squadron of F-22 stealth fighters to a base in the United Arab Emirates. The U.S. Navy doubled the number of it's minesweeping ships from four to eight and of its patrol boats from 5 to 10 in the past two years. It has deployed combat search and rescue helicopters, unmanned minesweeping submarines and high tech surveillance systems. Most threatening, it dispatched to the Persian Gulf a second aircraft carrier battle group that had been destined for the Pacific.

The U.S is also building up other forces in the region. IN early 2012, it expanded a military base in Kuwait, stationing two Army infantry brigades, or 15,000 troops there. That is still a token force, but the U.S. is pre-positioning covert and special operations capabilities and beefing up facility defenses. It has been operating a drone base out of Saudi Arabia. In July 2012, it deployed the U.S.S. Ponce, a converted transport ship that can serve as a special operations base, comeplete with helicopter pads and several hundred bunk beds. It has delivered long-range X band missile-defense radars to Israel and Turkey and has reached an agreement with Qatar to deploy a system there too. The U.S has reportedly asked the U.K. for access to bases on Cyprus, Diego Garcia and Ascension Island for use in an attack on Iran."
end quote page 25 March 11th 2013 Time Magazine.

Though some might say this is more about preparing for the fallout from Syria and Egypt and for that matter the instability in the whole area in regard to oil, it could also be said that it is preparing to support Israel when it goes in to knock out all nuclear facilities in Iran. Iran is not just expected this time to "Take" the destruction of it's nuclear facilities without some military response mostly because it likely will radiate a large area around wherever those nuclear facilities are as those facilities are "opened up" to the outside air. And also, Iran's nuclear facilities might be "Gone".

So, what do you think? Is the U.S. planning to back up Israel in taking down Iran? Time will tell.

Iran might be like the kid on the block in a city who pretends he is crazy so no one will beat him up. But here is the problem. What if the kid really is crazy and actually does what he says? There are only two countries on earth like this now, North Korea and Iran.
