There have always been starving unhappy, ignorant, suffering people, no matter how good some civilizations were to the top 10% of the population within those civilizations.
I think realizing that there were always a lot of people suffering might be important before one tries to solve today's problems. I just realized I was under the mistaken assumption that things were okay between 1950 and September 10th 2001. But that just isn't true. It was only true for the U.S. and Europe part of the time. If you study history, most of the world is suffering, dying in wars or pestilence or floods or some other calamity. So, I think beginning here trying to solve the world's problems is helpful.
The illusion that there ever was a time when the world was okay is just that: An Illusion fostered by different religions and economic systems around the world since the beginning of history(even the beginning of history doesn't make sense because somehow it should extend back to when humans first existed in some form on planet earth or on other planets if that is where some of our genetics came from.
I find realizing this very helpful. Because when I have tried to say, "The world economic system isn't working" I forgot to say (because it was so obvious I wasn't looking at it) that the world economic systems HAVE NEVER WORKED for the majority of mankind.
So, realizing this is a good place to start at why economic systems are still not working for the majority of mankind. And until there is a way to achieve zero population growth worldwide there likely never will be an economic system that works for everyone.
Because an economic system that works for everyone without zero population growth is obviously suicide (extinction) for the human race in the short and long term.
After the last week being the first major successful terrorist attack in the U.S. since 9-11, I needed to decompress from that. So, my wife and I and a friend went to see "The Croods", a cartoon about cavemen and women (before fire for the croods) who live in a cave and put a boulder over the entrance and sleep in a pile on the floor of the cave to stay warm and safe at night.
This is a very funny movie and even the dynamics of the head of cave (a caveman) and his relationship with his teenage daughter in some ways reminded me of my relationship with my own teenage daughter. So, my wife and I laughed and laughed at the creative genius of this movie. And also because of thinking like this I was able to see my way to writing this article today.
