Holistic

To be able to see all living things in a holistic way makes life worthwhile. Whether one believes in a God or not being able to see people and pets as making ones life better is worthwhile and gives comfort often when there is none. Today, after returning from 3 weeks on business in Southern California my wife informed me that she wanted to leave the dogs with dog sitter until next week sometime. I was upset because I want to have our dogs here to walk with and to hang out with. Whereas a lot is going to be going on here in the next week or two and my wife just wanted not to worry about them running away. I said, "Look. I want to walk in the woods with them. My son is now over 1000 miles away and it keeps me healthier when I walk a mile or more in the woods with them every day I can.

It also keeps our dogs much healthier too. I said, "Hey. I'll put them in the back yard or garage when everything is going on so they don't get loose." She finally agreed to that.

However, my wife recently told me about an incident while I was up in Portland visiting my older daughter and her boyfriend there. She said my younger daughter and her accidentally left the front door to the house not completely closed where the sea wind couldn't blow it open. When they returned 3 or 4 hours later they were greeted by the dogs in our front driveway. They were amazed that this could happen. I wasn't because my daughter (still in high school often doesn't check to see if the door is closed enough so it can blow open. So, anyway the house and the dogs were okay and so were my wife and daughter. But, you can see by this how safe it is where we live. Thank God!

Though I honor a scientific education so one actually knows how cars, planes, trains, boats, ships, space ships, the universe, and human and animal bodies work, still unless you can see life holistically it can be counterproductive.

The best example I can give around this is a flower. If all you can do is to pluck all the petals off a flower to analyze it then you have missed the whole point of life. To feel the flowers presence, to experience the fragrance, to see it growing there and opening in the sun. To walk in nature and watch a squirrel or bird and listen to the bird songs and squirrel noises and to laugh in the wonderment of this is to be alive and to be holistic.

If all you can do is take things apart and never value things being alive. Why are you alive? Wouldn't you rather be dead?

If you want to be living you must honor the living otherwise you soon will be dead in mind or body and eventually both. By honoring all life we also honor our own life. Without that we all are only the "Walking Dead".
