Ferries between U.S. and Canada and U.S. Islands
Most people either drive to Vancouver and then take a ferry from there to Vancouver Island, or they go to Anacortes and take a ferry to the San Juan Islands and stop off at Friday Harbor or take other ferries to Lopez or Orcas islands or other islands in the San Juan Islands. Since you are in the Sound and not in the open Pacific Ocean waves are smaller except during really large storms, so there can be more flat bottomed ferries in these areas over as far as Vancouver and Sidney which is on Vancouver Island (a large Island) along with Victoria. Then if you want to bypass Seattle and Tacoma and travel down through Port Angeles and drive to Forks (where Twilight the movie started) and then drive down to Aberdeen to see the Washington Coast, then the more open ocean going ship which acts as a ferry for both cars and vehicles under 20 feet in length will work. Or you can travel as just a passenger on the ship as well. On weekends and during holidays it is important to make a reservation on the phone or online. For example, I made a reservation using my Ipad in the U.S. still while on Orca Island for our ticket from Friday Harbor to Sidney, B.C., Canada.
