I just got a notification from my county that my mother's social security records have been hacked. However, my mother has been passed away for at least 4 or 5 years at this point. So, what relevance to anything is this to me?
The relevance might be that my mother's social security information like date of birth, social security and last addresses someone might sell to someone wanting a false but usable social security number.
However, with my mother passed on I don't really see the relevance to me personally other than her social security number and DOB and addresses have been stolen.
However, this sort of thing goes on all the time. If an adult is presently using their social security number this gets found out pretty quick. But, if it is a child's Social Security number or a deceased relatives social security number often people can get away with using that number for years and years. So, this is something to think about in how you want to handle this in regard to your children's social security numbers as well as deceased relatives social security numbers.
