However, life made a whole lot more sense in the 1950s than it does now.
I would say this is because of all the unintended consequences of changing things in our society. For example, as a 4 year old in 1952 I knew I had to be an emotionally strong young man and let the dentist pull out all my front teeth without novacaine. My father expected this of me. He also expected me to get on a bicycle (without training wheels at age 5) and have the freedom to ride my bike for blocks if I wished. He also gave me a Jacknife which I promptly tested for sharpness. (I still have a scar from testing the sharpness today across my right thumbprint. I kept the knife but didn't do that again.
But, the main point I want to make is that children more and more over the years have been treated sort of like Poodles so they have become pets rather than human beings. Often humans now in the U.S. or Europe never really grow up ever or they are in their 30s or even 40s when they grow up. Whereas when I grew up there was a lot of adulthood, (as a boy) that you had to deal with at even age 4). You knew if you did certain behaviors you were beaten bloody. There were natural consequences of physical pain for things you did. Now there is not. Now people do almost anything and seem to get away with it. That wasn't true in the 1950s and wasn't true at any time before that in our nation. Intentional or even unintentional acts by anyone might cause one's death just from vigilanteeism around one. In a city or in the country if you did something wrong people thought nothing of taking a child and spanking them on the spot or even shooting salt at them with a shotgun if they were stealing fruit or vegetables that would stick in their backs and burn for days.
So, a lot of the gun problems has come from the infantalization of children that almost never ends now. So, I think gun violence based upon suicidal tendencies from people who are unrealistic from being treated as pets rather than actual people who have to deal with the world can only increase and continue to increase exponentially until a more realistic system of behavior can be developed by society and within our mores and laws.
Because the one that has evolved since then since the 1950s just doesn't work and can't work (at least the way it is being practiced now).
For example, even at age 2 or 3 I pushed a little girl friend down a cement staircase and my grandfather saw me do this and beat me within an inch of my life. I deserved this because this little girl could have died falling down a steep cement staircase to the orchard. It's things like this that are missing in today's society.
The point I'm making is the unintended consequences of changing things that worked for thousands of years is going to be (one of the consequences) is hundreds or thousands or more young people being shot at public Schools from here on out. That is why I recommend that you either put your children in a private school if you can afford it (where most people who would do this are screened out) or to home school or put your child on independent study like I did with my oldest kids from 1980 to 1985 on:
