Lone Survivor: 2013

I went to see "Lone Survivor" tonight earlier. I kind of knew from watching trailers and interviews on talk shows that it would be difficult to watch in some places and I wasn't wrong. However, the Pashtun parts were pretty amazing and I hadn't expected that. It is sort of a story of what happens in todays very computerized military when radio reception and resources get disorganized in various ways and a bunch of soldiers get killed. In other words it was a clusterfuck of epic proportions. But, that isn't really what it's about. It's being military gentlemen despite all that and one of them even survives. And in the meantime they take out a whole lot of Taliban as they die one by one until there is only one Navy Seal left alive (by the Grace of God).

This movie is very hard to watch and if you aren't prepared for it it could be kind of tough on you if you aren't prepared for it. So, if you choose to go remember this is a true story and this makes it even tougher to watch. But, if you can handle it it is worth the journey for a variety of reasons.

I think about 1/2 of the people watching this in the theater were in the military in a variety of services. So, that was interesting too thinking about how many of them might have served already in Afghanistan or Iraq or both.
