A sell-off Friday was enough to push the Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq
into the red for the week. Tech stocks, which have been volatile for
the past two months, were once again a hotbed of selling. Disappointing
quarterly results from Amazon.com helped drag down tech stocks. Amazon
reported an increase in first-quarter profit, but it also said
investments are likely to lead to a second-quarter operating loss. Other
decliners included Netflix, Priceline, Facebook, and Twitter.
Escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine also weighed on investor
sentiment. Investments thought to be less risky were among the few
assets to rise Friday.
