Hilly Cities in the U.S.

There likely are others but the ones that come to mind because I live on the west coast are San Francisco, Portland and Seattle which all are built on small mountains or hills either near the ocean like Seattle and San Francisco or next to the Columbia River like Portland, Oregon.

Then there are two cities I can think of next to high or really high mountains. There is Denver at around 5000 feet and Colorado Springs at about 7000 feet and next to both are the Rocky Mountains up to 14,000 feet or more.

Then there is Los Angeles which is up against the Angeles National Forest and elevations that are up to 8000 to 9000 feet with snow often in the winter time. I've skied there when I lived nearby. But, in a drought like now this might not work.

My daughter never thought about Seattle being hilly before but while looking out our hotel window and walking some she said to me, "I never realized Seattle was such a hilly place."

The other thing you notice about Seattle is it is very green and lush with trees from all the abundant rain. There have been years in the past when there were only 7 days of sunshine in the whole year. But, now it appears you can get whole summers with sunshine. This is how much global warming has changed even Seattle.
