Understanding Human consciousness

I was interested in what human consciousness actually was at that point in college in the late 1960s and early 1970s. So, I was reading a book about self hypnosis. I thought I would try one of the techniques listed and realized at one point that "Who was going to bring me out of this because I was in my bedroom alone?" Because if I wasn't normal and couldn't summon myself back then who would?"

At this point I gave up on self hypnosis because I realized I couldn't be in two places at the same time to "bring myself back to reality".

However, it taught me something about self conditioning. Let's say someone watches a movie that they never should have watched and it placed something in their subconscious mind that is messing them up. It is possible for a person to recondition their subconscious mind by putting new information there so they are positively reinforced subconsciously rather than being negatively reinforced towards death or suicide or fatal accidents.

In a sense, "We are sole cause to our own experience" and if we don't take responsibility for that then soon we are crazy, maimed or dead."

This is just life the way it really is.

Religions might touch upon this obliquely but unless we are smart enough to realize we must take care of ourselves then we might wind up like friends or acquaintances sometimes do who are soon dead or crazy or maimed because they just don't take care of themselves enough to stay alive long enough to turn 30 or so, get married and maybe have a family. And at that point if you aren't a whole person you might screw up the next generation of your family too.

So, getting it right in your teens and 20s is really important so you can help your kids to a good life too.
