Anyway, they both enjoyed the zoo because they went just as the Zoo was closing and all the animals were about to be fed and kind of angry because they were hungry. The female lion roared and shook the door where her food came out with both paws. It was so loud my wife sort of started to walk away in fear that this lion was going to get out and because of her knee replacement it might eat her because it was so hungry. Another incident was when a silverback gorilla (really huge) was irritated by a little girl who kept a metal cricket clacking on and on because he was angry too about not being fed yet. They got a picture of this too. My wife's friend was very impressed with both of these two experiences. So, before she left for the SF Bay area in her car she told us how happy she was to come to Santa Barbara because of all these experiences and also because all her allergies didn't affect her in Santa Barbara. I told her this is why all the movie stars and corporate heads have estates here because we are above the smog mostly and it is beautiful here and the ocean breezes usually keep the air clear and Santa Barbara is sort of a jewel of the Pacific and still in the "Warm zone" of California beaches. This zone sort of extends from about where Pismo Beach and San Luis Obispo is south.
Whereas, the Bay area is much cooler generally. In the summers the waters from about Pismo Beach south are warm enough to go in without a wet suit but north of that this isn't always the case.
If you are on the East Coast or midwest, or elsewhere on earth and want to visit California beaches and go swimming here are temperature ranges for the northern Beaches which are usually much colder than the high 60s and low 70s of Southern California beaches, especially during summers.
