The basic Idea seems to be that U.S. intelligence didn't have any idea who was there. What they knew was definitely this was an Al Qaeda training camp that they wanted to destroy so they did with some Al Qaeda leaders dead and some hostages dead to in the end. But, they were still trying to figure out who died there even during this last week.
