By Grabthar’s hammer, by the suns of Worvan, you shall get your Galaxy Quest series.
As reported back in April, Paramount Television was developing a TV series based on the aforementioned 1999 film. Now, EW.com reports, the smaller-screen Galaxy Quest has touched down at Amazon, home to such originals as the acclaimed Transparent, Bosch and Alpha House.
The Galaxy Quest movie starred Tim Allen (now on Last Man Standing), Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub and Sam Rockwell as cast members of a Star Trek-like series that has long been off the air. During a fan convention appearance, they encounter a group they think are cosplayers but who are really Thermians aka aliens — played by, among others, Veronica Mars‘ Enrico Colantoni, The Office‘s Rainn Wilson and Missi Pyle — who need their help solving an intergalactic incident.
It
is unclear at this early stage if the Amazon series will continue the
original story, with or without any previous cast, or reboot it whole.
Robert Gordon, who penned the original Galaxy Quest
script, will write the pilot and executive-produce alongside director
Dean Parisot and film EPs Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein.
