Human Evolution

Individual human evolution comes from the ability to be brave enough to ask questions and not to settle for answers that are an insult to your intelligence. However, this is a very difficult road and often takes people to World Views that are different than whatever area of the world they come from.

In my own case I remember people telling me in the religion I grew up that I shouldn't go to college because I would become a "Pinko" which meant I would become "Liberal" or more liberal than I presently was in my thinking. Obviously, I grew up around fairly conservative people, and a good portion of them were wealthy with college degrees.

So, this kind of thinking always seemed sort of paradoxical and imperfect to me. If I wanted to be educated "I was going to turn into some kind of 'pinko' and what exactly did that mean?"

Well. I never turned into a "Pinko" because at this point I see being "Just liberal" as being just as ridiculous as being "Just conservative". Instead of becoming a pinko I just became more well rounded as a person. I saw in college that both the liberal and conservative points of view had some good ideas and in other ways were both a fantasy that would destroy the world each in different ways. So, instead of Just being a conservative I was able to see all points of view and why people held those points of view. But mostly I noticed people held a specific point of view out of tradition. However, I saw this type of thinking as mostly dangerous for the peace of the world for a variety of reasons.

So, I took from all points of view the things I saw that could create a world that wouldn't blow itself up or cause other problems, and I also took from religions and philosophies that I studied ideas that I found useful and that would help mankind to survive long into the future.

It's not that any one point of view is right or wrong, it's that you have to keep asking questions as they come up for you. And if you settle on answers that just don't make any sense there might be no future for you or your children. So, you owe it to them to become someone who keeps asking questions the rest of their lives so your children and grandchildren have a future too.
