55 days at Peking (1963)

  1. I watched this first likely at the Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood "likely now called the Mann Theater" or something like that. I enjoyed it then even though now Peking is called "Beijing" which is closer to what the Chinese call their city. Americans and others have learned to be more accurate in their pronounciations of places in the last 30 to 40 years.

When I went to Germany, for example, I pronounced Munich, Munich and was told it is pronounced Munch un instead which was interesting. This is based upon what really happened during the Boxer rebellion in 1900.
