My concerns about the Turkish shoot down of a Russian Bomber

I had sort of foreseen Russia getting into a conflict with a country like Turkey or Saudi Arabia. However, if Turkey and Russia come to blows it is possible that Saudi Arabia may come to it's aid since Both Turkey and Saudi Arabia are fighting Iran through proxy wars who is allied with Russia. So, as this gets more complicated every day now, we might be witnessing the next stage of this "World War" in the Middle East as it appears to grow daily into something else and worse.

What is important to realize here is that Russia has more than one goal here. There first goal is to keep Assad in power so they keep their port Tartus because they only have 2 real warm water ports now, one in Crimea and one in Tartus in Syria.

Second, Russia is hurting from low oil prices so it might want a conflict with Saudi Arabia to drive up oil prices. Iran it's ally also wants higher oil prices to fund it's proxy war against Saudi Arabia and other Sunni nations in Yemen, Iraq and Syria. So, Iran is helping to manipulate the ISIS situation because of this.

So, what may be happening here is Russia may want Turkey for Iran to rule so they wouldn't stop Assad in Syria anymore. Or they might just want to destabilize Turkey and make it dysfunctional.

So, this is a real problem now for all Sunni nations in the Middle East and beyond.

The important thing to remember regarding Russia is that they likely will do almost anything to keep Assad in power and to raise oil prices worldwide. If you understand this you understand everything important in this situation regarding Russia.

Putin is an opportunist more than anything else. He will push boundaries like he has with Turkey sort of like a Teenage boy with a lot of testosterone because so far he has mostly gotten away with this sort of thing.

Once again the Russian Military proverb, "Push the bayonet in and keep pushing until you find resistance, then pull back".

This is macho in the extreme and how Russia grew so large as the Soviet Union and why they might grow as a country once again in this same way.

But, this likely isn't good for Turkey or other Sunni nations now in the Middle East because Putin really doesn't like any Sunni nations very much in the end.
