A rifle-slinging Wisconsin teenager opened fire outside his former high school during prom Saturday night, wounding two students before a police officer fatally shot him.
The suspect, 18-year-old Jakob E. Wagner, was pronounced dead in a hospital about two hours after the Antigo High School shootout, authorities said.
One victim, a female, was treated and released for gunshot wounds. A male victim underwent surgery and is expected to survive, police said.
Wagner started shooting outside the school, about 70 miles northwest of Green Bay, at 11:15 p.m., police said.

Jakob Wagner, 18, graduated from Antigo High School last year and continued playing for its marching band, according to his social media profiles.

An officer patrolling the school returned gunfire, “stopping the threat” after hearing gunshots, police said.
A prom DJ said authorities quickly locked down the school, with guns drawn, after chaos erupted outside the gym entrance.
“Hats off to them, they did their job,” Brandon Irish told the Daily News.

The shooting took place outside Antigo High School late Saturday during the school's prom.

He said police cordoned students inside the gym until about 1 a.m.
“You hear about it, but you don’t think it’s going to happen close to you,” Irish said. “We’re a really tight knit community. Everybody knows everybody.”
Police have not released a motive for the attack or said if Wagner is believed to have targeted anyone.

Wagner graduated from Antigo in 2015, and appears to have continued playing in its marching band through the past year, according to his Facebook and Instagram pages. The school's newspaper listed him as an honor roll student last year.
He posted an Instragram photo about four months ago showing what he said was an airsoft rifle, placed on a bed. His last Instagram photo was posted one week before the shooting, showing bacon strips cooking on a grill. Wagner said the photo was taken outside his old school.
Wagner also posted several photos with a woman he described as his girlfriend. A friend of Wagner's, Dylan Dewey, told the Associated Press the girl attended Antigo and broke up with Wagner last month.
Dewey called Wagner an "all-around good guy" who was interested in guns and hunting, but didn't seem able to afford a gun.
