It's important to understand how vulnerable electronics actually are. For example, in a large enough solar flare all magnetic memory likely would be gone if exposed to the solar flare because it was on that side of the planet when it hit earth.
Think about just this one thing for a moment, everyone's cell phone's memory (and everything on it) on that side of earth would be gone. Everyone's hard drive would be gone.
What would remain?
Books made of paper and non-magnetic memory like Cds and DVDs but all magnetic tapes and all magnetic memory on hard drives and cell phones would be gone. All Servers that run the Internet exposed to this would be gone on that side of the planet where it hit.
Another problem also could be that the nations on the other side of the planet to the ones that got hit might attack and take over the hit nations while they were vulnerable from the solar flare hit.
You might say, "This is all theoretical, it likely won't happen."
My answer and the answer of scientists would be: "NO. It's not an if that this happens it is only a when?"
This is coming. My point of view is the sooner it happens the better because millions less will die this way if it happens sooner rather than later.
The more dependent we are on all things electrical and electronic the more likely it will end civilization completely when it happens to one side of the planet.
