Big Sur Soberanes Fire victim: 'It's all gone'

After losing his home in Palo Colorado Canyon, Wolff Langer felt like he was in a bad dream.
"It's completely gone, leveled. It's a weird feeling, it feels surreal right now. I feel like I'm in a dream," Langer said.

Langer's home was among 20 houses near Big Sur that were destroyed by the 23,500-acre Soberanes Fire, which is still raging out-of-control.
"Even people that had metal concrete homes, (they) just disintegrated," Langer said.
The Palo Colorado Canyon community was the first of three communities that received mandatory evacuation orders from the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.

Langer said he loved living so close to nature. His family and friends also have homes in the canyon, and they used an ATV to flee up Palo Colorado Road as flames were fast-approaching Friday.
Langer's neighbor, Nathaniel McKagney, said, "There's only one way out. We took what we had, packed it in our car, and took off."
McKagney said he did not know if his house was still standing.
Charlie Cascio lost a house that he had built with his own hands next to a redwood tree in Palo Colorado Canyon.
Firefighters said more homes were likely lost in the blaze, but they will not know for sure until firefighters are able to go into areas that are currently inaccessible.
Cal Fire firefighter Amber Anderson said, "Right now we have no concrete answers. We are hoping that within the next 48 hours, 72, hours, to have more answers."
Big Sur is home to a tough community, and a few residents decided to stay with their homes and not follow evacuation orders.
Homeowner Dan Patrick lives at the bottom of Palo Colorado Canyon.
"It's been pretty hectic. I had bulldozers go behind my house yesterday, they made a fire break right behind my house, so that was pretty gnarly," Patrick said.
Patrick said even if the wildfire reaches his doorstop, he's not going to leave.
"I'm able to fight (the fire), and I'm going to fight it all I can," Patrick said.
The Monterey County Sheriff's Office issued a new mandatory evacuation order Wednesday afternoon.
Residents in the following areas are ordered to evacuate immediately:
-- Robinson Canyon Road between San Clemente Trail and White Rock Gun Club.
-- The area south of San Clemente Trail between Robinson Canyon Road and the Rancho San Clemente Gate House.
-- Arroyo Sequoia Road
The wildfire caused one fatality on Tuesday. A bulldozer operator who was working on the southeast side of the blaze suffered fatal injuries when his bulldozer rolled. His name had not been released as of Wednesday afternoon.
