Unless one is sociopathic, happiness is not possible without compassion for yourself and others

It's mostly about Conscience. If you have one you have to have some way to feel okay with your life being okay even when others lives aren't (or else you cause yourself so many problems you become dysfunctional, emotionally or mentally or both.

So, the way to survive is to learn how to think in compassionate ways to yourself and all beings. Feeling guilty because you are thinking badly of yourself or others isn't useful.

You have to get at the root of the problem by rooting it out.

One way I deal with this is a Buddhist prayer that has worked for me since I first heard it from Tibetan Buddhist Students, monks and Tibetan Lamas. Here is is:

May all Beings attain Bliss and the Cause of Bliss
May all beings be free from Suffering and the cause of suffering
May all beings never be without the supreme Bliss that is free from
All near and far all Grasping and aversion.

Not one being left behind.

  end of prayer:

What I do is to experience this quietly in my mind as I say this over and over again so that it becomes real for me. This helps it become a reality not only in my subconscious mind but also in the world around me as well as inside me.

So, in feeling this way over time I don't feel tense, I don't feel afraid. I don't feel guilty and I treat myself and all beings much better in any thought or action regarding any other living being from a human to an animal, to a bug or even a tree or a plant.

So, I'm generating positivity towards all life in the Universe as my family in the past, present and future. This creates mental emotional and physical health in my body and when others come around me or you doing this they feel it too often and feel at peace because you are able to maintain it.

So, you become a generator of peace and compassion and kindness for all beings in the past, present and future by so doing this ongoing in your lives.

By God's Grace
