South on Interstate 5 from Portland: smokey from about Corvalis to maybe Redding

The first thing we found out besides it being Saturday Labor Day Weekend was that there are two football games one in Corvalis at a college there and a 2nd one in Eugene at Oregon State there. This made traffic hell along with 205 intersecting 5 on Labor day weekend. So, we arrived in Ashland 2 or 3 hours after we wanted to because of this.

But then to make matters worse around Corvalis we realized there were fires nearby. When I talked to a friend in Mt. Shasta he was going up on the mountain above 10,000 feet partly to get above the smoke there too. But, as we traveled south the worse it got smoke wise between Roseburg and Grants Pass. In fact, the gas station attendant was wearing a mask so he didn't have breathing problems putting gas in Cars.

By the way if you have never been to Oregon you are not allowed to put in your own gas there. They have attendants who do this instead and you can be fined if you put in your own gas in Oregon because of this.

So, you are going to be dealing with a lot of smoke anywhere between about Redding and Corvalis Oregon and throughout most of the state of Oregon. There are many fires through out the state now.

My friend says he can see both mount Shasta and Mt. Eddy so it likely is much better there than in Ashland, Oregon. But it is even worse between Grants Pass and Roseburg (at least it was today).

If you haven't driven through a whole lot of smoke before turn on your recycle air in your car so you don't get anymore outside air. If it is hot like today you are going to need your air conditioner today. I don't think it got to 106 today because of smoke but it for sure got above 100 in Ashland today the people working there said.

The air filters in your car or truck will absorb most of the smoke particles so they don't lodge in your lungs and give you problems short or long term this way.
