Even when I grew up in the 1950s people were much more superstitious than they are now here in the U.S. so people often were terrified more by their own ignorance and could easily be hysterical or pushed into murdering each other more than now here in the U.S.
Because people are more educated now they have become more fearless generally speaking which can be both good and bad in whole new ways.
For example, this educated person often is resistant to change and this can be there downfall. One can either be an experimentalist or someone who is unchanging and there is a time for both.
But, healing is accomplished by the patient acknowledging sometimes very painful truths. And if those truths cannot be acknowledged often the patient dies because they won't change their diets or habits and then they are dead.
However, if one is adaptable enough, and educated enough one learns to adapt to changes as the "ONLY way to survive some health situations".
NOw these situations can be completely physical in nature or they can be psychological or both.
But, not acknowledging actual situations by both doctor and patient or healer and patient often means death or maiming of the patient.
So, often one's perception of reality is whether one lives or dies in many situations ongoing.
So, more and more and more the Doctor and patient or healer and patient both have to be realistic and communicate more effectively with each other so the patient doesn't have to die through an ignorant way of perceiving reality.
Sometimes this is possible and sometimes it is not.
But, understanding how important effective communication is one realizes "OFTEN IT IS LIFE OR DEATH IN NATURE!".
