What might be important here is that most people don't realize that if they mix ANY opioids with Alcohol and go to sleep they likely will die. This likely isn't well enough known yet and might be one of the causes of so many deaths from opioids.
What happens is the brain cannot get the body to breathe while asleep when opioids and alcohol are consumed if the body is asleep so people die. So, if you know someone has taken opioids and then started drinking alcohol keep them awake or they likely will die if they sleep while on both alcohol and opioids.
Examples of opioids are: Painkillers such as; morphine, methadone, Buprenorphine, hydrocodone, and oxycodone. Heroin is also an opioid and is illegal. Opioid drugs sold under brand names include: OxyContin®, Percocet®, Palladone®(taken off the market 7/2005), Vicodin®, Percodan®, Tylox® and Demerol® among others.
