When I went to Portland a few years ago I discovered Sprouts Farmers Market which is somewhat (just somewhat) like Whole foods) but what I just discovered was that there are 78 Sprouts already in California as I researched it on my Iphone because I didn't even know there was one because there isn't one within many miles of where I live.
I thought it might be interesting to compare the number of Sprouts Farmers markets to Whole Foods Markets now and there are a similar number of Whole Foods stores to Sprouts stores too.
Add to this that Amazon.com has bought Whole Foods recently and this becomes even more interesting to contemplate.
Back in the 1950s one reason my father moved to Glendale from Tujunga was that across from the Chiropractic College there was Foods for Life store where we could buy all organic foods even then since my dad was a Lacto Ovo Vegetarian since 1934 when he was 18. So, I was raised a lacto vov Vegetarian too from birth.
One of the more interesting things was when I got a heart virus at age 50 at the Stanford Medical Center near Stanford University I had an angiogram and none of the doctors had ever seen anyone with as clear of arteries and veins free from any plaque at all as my arteries and veins. They said only in children under 12 had they seen this before. So, there is something to be said for being a vegetarian if you don't want to have heart attacks from your 30s onward. Also, no one in my family has heart attacks anyway. That's not how they die.
