Not only is this true but 1 to 3 year ice ages in some areas of the planet have been known to take place where snow and ice doesn't melt off for 1 to 3 years caused usually by pyroclastic glass in powder form at higher altitudes.
I didn't experience any ice ages but I did experience living in Mt. Shasta when Mt. Saint Helens blew up in Southern Washington State. For the next year temperatures on my land in Mt. Shasta were about 10 degrees colder than normal for then and sunsets because of the particulate in the air during this time often were purple, orange and green sunsets caused by pyroclastic glass and other things in dust at higher altitudes from this volcanic eruption when the mountain exploded killing around 70 people in the early 1980s. By 3 years later temperatures and sunsets finally returned to more normal for that era.
